The Best Imitation of Myself

I stumbled across Creative Loafing today, where Chuck Bryan introduces himself by quoting Chariots of Fire:
"I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel his pleasure." Eric Liddell

I thought it might be fun to solicit movie quotations related to personal identity. I know that Mr. Steve has a prodigious memory for movies, and I suspect that other readers have some films that triggered their self-consciousness. I'll get the ball rolling; feel free to post often and invite your friends to play along.

"You shovel better than any man I know. But that doesn't make you a superhero." Mystery Men

I'm telling you he never even leaves the house, okay. I mean he's like some sort of recluse. A complete freak. No social life. In fact, no social skills. It's a strange f***ing thing. When he's working, the smoothest operator you've ever seen. Brave, slick, cunning, he can do anything. Soon as he gets off work, it's all gone. Afraid to go to the dry cleaners. Literally. Too uncomfortable in his own skin to go out and eat. Tactless and inept. Rude too.

My other favorite quote from Mystery Men too is the one at the end: "We're number one! All others are number two or lower."

That makes me laugh even typing it :).

* "there's no crying in baseball!" - league of their own
* "take me to bed or lose me forever" - top gun

i don't know why either one was the first to pop in my head, and i don't like thinking they might by motto-ish in anyway.

Here are a few movie quotes of how people define themselves to the world. These range from the simple:"I'm Batman." or "To converse with his equal, an Irishman is forced to talk to God." and finally "I'm not Mr. Lebowski. You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. That, or Duder. His Dudeness. Or El Duderino, if,you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing--"

Then there are those that not only define the self, but also state a goal:"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

but most importantly remember these words of wisdom from a man wiser than myself:
"Sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, he eats you."

I don't know if it applies to myself (though I'm sure it does from time to time) but I run around way to much saying, "No soup for you!" Oh, wait, that's from a tv show!
